Anne WoodAnne Wood - Divine Discontent

Debut album by popular Australian music theatre star is a unique interpretation of the songs of ABBA, including one song, The Day The Wall Came Tumbling Down, that has never been available on CD!

Here's how Anne describes her new album....

"I was always a huge ABBA fan, unwittingly beginning my musical training as a kid, huddled over the record player with my little sister trying to work out all those harmonies. Years later I was cast as the original Donna Sheridan in MAMMA MIA in Australia. The incredible success of this show is now, of course, the stuff of legend, however a particular element of the audience reaction always intrigued me.

People would write letters or wait at the stagedoor to tell us how much they were moved by particular songs, and how they’d been singing along to those songs for years, but had never really listened to the words…the stories in those songs.

Like all great song writers, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus often drew on their own life experiences when writing lyrics. We all know "The Winner Takes It All" was about the break up of Bjorn and Agnetha’s marriage and ‘When All Is Said And Done’ was Benny’s story of the end of his relationship with Frida ( and Bjorn really did have a neighbor who played the fiddle) but the potency of some of their lyrics is sometimes diluted or overlooked because their musical arrangements just make us want to dance .

My own divine discontent has pushed me to make this recording and attempt to shine a humble light on the stories contained within."
