Just arrived from PS Classics....

Road ShowRoad Show - 2008 Original Off-Broadway Cast

Attention all Sondheim fans - Road Show is now in stock!

Featuring a book by John Weidman and a score by Stephen Sondheim, Road Show spans 40 years of American history, from the Gold Rush to the Florida real-estate boom in the 1930's.

Press notes for the work read: "Road Show is the story of two brothers whose quest for the American dream turns into a test of morality and judgment that changes their lives in unexpected ways."

The cast includes Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Alexander Gemignani as the eccentric Wilson and Addison Mizner, respectively, with Alma Cuervo as Mama, William Parry as Papa, Claybourne Elder as Hollis and ensemble members Aisha de Haas, Colleen Fitzpatrick, Mylinda Hull, Mel Johnson, Jr., Orville Mendoza, Anne L. Nathan, Tom Nelis, Matt Stocke, William Youmans and Kristine Zbornik.

From PS Classics co-founder Tommy Krasker: "As a record producer, you don’t often get the chance to revisit a Sondheim score on disc. I’ve been blessed with three of those opportunities, the latest being the off-Broadway cast recording of ROAD SHOW (the musical formerly known as Bounce). Those who saw the show when it played the Public Theatre last fall know how far it came from its earlier incarnations; indeed, producing the recording of ROAD SHOW felt like preserving a whole new work. As The New York Times noted, this is a ‘trimmed-down, toughened-up and seriously darkened new edition,’ in which ‘the great living master of the American musical has returned to the shadows where, artistically at least, he has always felt most at home,’ creating in the process ‘a timely metaphor for an economic boom gone bust.’ Even the songs, or fragments of songs, that remain from its earlier incarnation are rethought, given new meaning in context and in performance, and the cast and orchestra – returning to the work two months after the show closed – were at the top of their game; the recording date was one of the most exhilarating I’ve ever run."

Sleeping Beauty WakesSleeping Beauty Wakes - A GrooveLily Musical

Pop trio GrooveLily and Tony Award-winner Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), who spun the Hans Christian Andersen tale The Little Match Girl into the acclaimed urban hipster musical Striking 12, triumphantly turn another adult-themed fairy tale on its ear. Set in a 21st-century sleep-disorder clinic, Sleeping Beauty Wakes blooms from the subconscious dreams of its main character, whose evasive waking life mirrors the nocturnal one from which she cannot escape.

Originally commissioned by Deaf West Theatre Company, Sleeping Beauty Wakes was hailed by the Hollywood Reporter as "brilliant entertainment," while the LA Daily News found it "a thing of just plain rocks."

This premiere recording – filled with the eclectic and harmonious songs that are a GrooveLily signature – is performed by band members Valerie Vigoda, Gene Lewin and Brendan Milburn, who vividly interpret the beguiling characters and driving, hypnotic melodies they dreamed into being.
